We are seeking candidates for a Risk Manager, who will direct global risk management efforts, loss prevention/safety, claims, business continuity and insurance programs. 

 

Duties and responsibilities: 

 

  • Provide leadership and supervision of Risk Management Analyst or other Risk Management staff.
  • Manage both the global and domestic corporate, and Musco family insurance programs, including property, casualty, executive risk, international liability, aviation, professional liability and applicable terrestrial lines of coverage.
  • Work directly with domestic and global insurance brokers and carriers, negotiate premiums, policy wording, agreements and direct claims processing, including maintenance of existing broker and carrier relationships.
  • Provide oversight and administration of all claims activities.
  • Direct compilation of data for renewals and benchmarks of both domestic and global insurance coverage to ensure appropriateness and competitiveness with our peers.
  • Perform review of insurance and indemnification provisions in business contracts for compliance with applicable lines of coverage.
  • Identification and mitigation of risk exposures, in terms of frequency, severity and cause of loss, at all worldwide locations.
  • Oversee the administration of company’s worldwide, worker’s compensation program, including claims management, quarterly claims reviews and directing the investigation of accidents and injuries.
  • Provide risk management consulting to internal customers throughout the company, including loss control expertise.
  • Direct the ongoing management of the business continuity program.
  • Budgeting, reporting and administration of departmental budget for risk management
  • Other special projects, as assigned.

 

Requirements and qualifications:

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Insurance/Risk Management, Business, or a related field, and 3-6 years experience in risk assessment and management, insurance placement, policy review, claims processing, and other insurance issues
  • Experience with global, large deductible and self-insured programs is preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks
  • Ability to work with a variety of people at all levels, both within Musco and outside the company
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Very detail oriented
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines in a timely manner

 Accounts Managing/Sales

  • Serve as a primary business contact for the client and maintain client satisfaction.

Paralegal

  • Identify and pursue potential third party subrogation recoveries associated with workers compensation claims and excess recovery reimbursements. 
  • Review multi-jurisdictional workers compensation claims to determine potential for third party subrogation recovery.
  • Provide guidance and direction to claims staff for obtaining any additional investigation/information necessary to identify or pursue subrogation; provides subrogation training to claims offices. 
  • Contact client to discuss and obtain authorization to pursue third party subrogation, assignments to subrogation counsel, and settlement authority.
  • Gather information necessary to support viable subrogation claim; documents claim notes with appropriate information.
  • Send appropriate subrogation lien notices to appropriate parties.
  • Maintain a diary on all active claims with subrogation potential and claims meeting excess reporting criteria; pursues excess reimbursements.
  • Secure recovery from responsible parties; enters recoveries into claims management system.
  • Prepare status reports for client as required. 
  • Interview victims and witnesses, prepared summaries of those interviews for use in charging decisions, as well as plea negotiations or trial.
  • Conducted employee grievance investigations for final administrative remedy, including but not limited to: sexual harassment, invasion of privacy, employee performance evaluations & disciplinary actions.
  • Assist in civil litigation involving Johnson County Departments including Board of Assessment Review, Planning and Zoning Commission Decisions, Secondary Roads, and Johnson County Sheriff’s Department and Jail Administration.

Legal Documentation

  • Prepare documents for all phases of practice primarily in workers' compensation and family law
  • In-depth memorandum concerning compensability issues, medical treatment and status.
  • Correspondence to medical practitioners, nurse case managers, mediators, attorneys, claims adjusters and employer representatives.
  • Legal documents regarding all phases of administrative and settlement proceedings; discovery pleadings, responses to written discovery requests, mediation statements, exhibits and witness lists, hearing reports and dispositive motions.
  • Prepare calculations of weekly benefit rates, duration of payments and any interest accumulated on late payments.
  • Perform legal research and prepare reports thereon.
  • Prepare Child Support Obligation Worksheets, Qualified Domestic Relations Orders, Trial Information and Minutes of Testimony.
  • Subpoena and Subpoena Duces Tecum.
  • Enforced Court Ordered Obligations through monitoring and ultimately Rule to Show Cause action
  • Prepare victim/witness travel coordination/accommodations.

Computer Skills

  • Utilization of case management software: Amicus.
  • Maintenance of database of clients, physicians, surveillance professionals, nurse case managers and prospects.
  • Utilization of Workers’ Compensation Commissioners’ Website, Hot Docs, Iowa Child Support Software.
